Expose yourself!

I thought about giving you the details of my relationship with the radio, but instead here's the short version:
  • I didn't listen to it (instead, vinyl albums of Flatt & Scruggs, Hank Williams & Johnny Cash)
  • Then, I did listen to it (pretty awful stuff like Casey Kasem's top 40 countdown)
  • Then, I didn't listen to it again (instead The Replacements, and R.E.M, and some folk and a little bluegrass).
  • Then, I listened to it just a little (one bluegrass show on Saturday mornings in Boulder, CO on KGNU, a little bit of KBCO, and the rest of the time CDs)
  • Then, I listened to it a lot (when I lived in Greenville, SC and discovered WNCW).
  • Then, I didn't listen to it ('cause in Charleston, SC you couldn't get WNCW)
  • Then, I did listen to, almost constantly, because online streaming for radios became prevalent.
If you can't find a radio station you absolutely love on the web, you haven't looked hard enough. I've actually found several that I love. Check these out, and expose yourself to some new and great music!

WNCW
- www.WNCW.org
For you bluegrass lovers, Jerry McNeely is on every morning at 6:00 am; Dennis Jones and Brad Watson are on 11:00 am to 7:00 pm on Saturdays. And bluegrass is intertwined with all sorts of other music during the weekdays.

WDVX - www.WDVX.com
What a cool station. I bet you wouldn't expect Knoxville, TN to be the place to find such a thing, but there it is; and on your computer. Freddy Smith plays bluegrass every morning, other bluegrass DJs on the weekends, and all sorts of great music throughout the day. Be sure to check out Red Hickey and the Blue Plate Special for live music everyday on your lunch break!

WAMU - www.BluegrassCountry.org
Katy Daley, Michael Demsey, Gary Henderson and a slew of other great DJs bring you bluegrass music nearly around the clock. They also do great interviews with some of your favorite musicians.

One more thing - if you try this, and enjoy it, send those stations a few bucks. They are powered by you, the listener! Enjoy yourself!
